Review:
If you haven’t read The Amber Project. I suggest you do. Transient Echoes is the second novel in what J.N Chaney calls “The Variant Saga”.
J.N Chaney continues to thrill us at every turn through Transient Echoes. The book adds more questions and mystery behind every answer and clue. It sets up the tone for his next book in the series. The Epilogue will surely blow any preconceived notions you had from The Amber Project out of the water.
Transient Echoes follows two of the main characters fromThe Amber Project:
Terry, upon risking his life to close the rift is flung to unknown corners of the universe to a far distant world. A stranger in a distant land, he stumbles upon new discoveries after four years. Only to find more questions than answers. Along the way, he would make new enemies, discover new perils, and stir an entire planet into action.
Mei, after losing one of her closest friends to an implosive finally, continues to search for clues to the questions in her mind. What happened to the building, to the Rift, to Terry? Remains of the building are abundantly present, but Terry and the Rift have seemingly disappeared. Half truths, greed by scientists at Central, Radiation levels from out of nowhere, and sketchy machinery that hasn’t been operated in centuries, Mei will do almost anything to discover the truth. Potentially at her own peril. Worse, potentially at her teams.
Synopsis from Amazon:
It has been three years since the day of the Second Jolt. Thanks to the efforts of a select few, the world is finally moving on. As the Variant air begins to thin, humanity finds itself on the cusp of a new age of exploration…but at what cost?
After closing the rift—the source of all Variant—the hybrid child known as Terry has been transported to a distant world, far away from the only home he’s ever known. Completely isolated, and haunted by voices from his past, he wanders through the ruins of an ancient civilization long forgotten.
Back on Earth, a young woman named Mei works tirelessly to uncover the secrets of the rift. Against orders, she searches for the truth, making an unprecedented gamble. Will her obsession bring the answers she so desperately seeks…or will it cause even more destruction?
